In response to the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota (August 28, 2025)

I am one of the privileged, fortunate ones. Nobody I love was shot.

Yesterday morning, I was babysitting my niece, who is two (but she doesn’t hesitate to correct me: “Auntie, I’m two and a half.” The morning had monarch butterflies that just opened their butterfly wings (I’m told this one was a boy butterfly, from an entomologist friend, with the black and white spots near the back.

We picked baby tomatoes and practiced walking barefoot over freshly dropped acorns. We made three open exposure sun prints, the kind my grandmother used to help us make, exposing just the simple shadows of grass. We made three. Then my sister called.

And just a handful of miles away, other beautiful babies were again taken from their own aunties with guns.

This brings me, without any further ado, to a collaboration with Everytown for Gun Safety.

Stay tuned for how to purchase/make a contribution.

The visual ABSENCE of a cyanotype print is heartbreaking
